This still holds true today, as many popular songs contain messages about important values. Take, for example, Bobby Mcferrin\u2019s \u201cDon&#8217;t Worry, Be Happy.\u201d This beloved song contains a timeless piece of advice: don&#8217;t sweat the small stuff. Music is a way of communicating these messages in a way that&#8217;s entertaining and fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Teaching your children important lessons from an early age is an important and sometimes challenging task. Many parents look for fun ways to teach their children new information but might get discouraged with the short attention spans of young minds. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m here to suggest using popular songs to discuss teach important lessons to your child.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few child-friendly songs that incorporate great lessons:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Shake it Off &#8211; Taylor Swift<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_300\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-300\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-300\" src=\"\/\/www.mypetsies.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Taylor-Swift-Shake-It-Off-400x400.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Swift Album Cover\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-300\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/images\/uxEYJW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This song is the epitome of catchy, but thankfully it contains a message that you\u2019ll want stuck in your head. \u201cShake it Off\u201d will teach children to do just that: shake things off. If your child is young, you might find their conflicts revolve around learning to share. If you have a young child, you may find that teasing becomes an issue in his or her life. Regardless of the problem, \u201cShake it Off\u201d is a great song to teach children how to let go of conflicts.<\/p>\n<h3>One Love &#8211; Bob Marley<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_299\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-299\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-299 size-medium\" src=\"\/\/www.mypetsies.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/bob-marley-one-love-wallpaper-wallpaper-1-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bob Marley Album Cover\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-299\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/images\/tB9dLK<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the most important things we can teach children is how to live peacefully with others despite any differences they may have. Bob Marley is remembered for his peaceful messages. His enjoyable music is a great way to introduce children to ideas of acceptance.<\/p>\n<h3>Born This Way &#8211; Lady Gaga<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_302\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-302\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-302 size-medium\" src=\"\/\/www.mypetsies.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/born_this_way_wallpaper_by_tectris-d3fblk9-400x250.jpg\" alt=\"Lady Gaga Album Cover\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-302\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/images\/6xmDiw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Not only is the acceptance of others an important lesson for children, teaching self-acceptance is equally necessary. Lady Gaga\u2019s song \u201cBorn This Way\u201d will help children develop without feeling shame about who they are or what their interests may be. In a world that places too many standards on our children, \u201cBorn This Way\u201d is a breath of fresh air.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h3>Give Peace a Chance &#8211; John Lennon<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_301\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-301\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-301 size-medium\" src=\"\/\/www.mypetsies.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/5f580519492481.562dd20bafdf0-259x400.jpg\" alt=\"John Lennon Album Cover\" width=\"259\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/images\/mgSYfL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This lesser known song by Beatles member John Lennon is a great way to reinforce acceptance or conflict resolution in your child. The song repeats the phrase \u201cGive Peace a Chance\u201d many times throughout the recording, which will make the song easy to sing along to for a young child.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;d recommend playing these songs to your child and discussing the meaning of the lyrics. For example, if your child got into a disagreement with a friend at school, you could discuss why it\u2019s important to \u201cshake it off\u201d and fix the problem. \u201cShake it off\u201d could become a token phrase you use with your child when they experience issues that would be better forgotten about.
